Web-Based Instruction

Making Web-Based Courses Work Effectively

This comprehensive hands-on program goes beyond using Web-development software and into the latest techniques of online instruction.  Approximately 40 hours of online work, including a live Office Hour session for questions and answers held weekly.

Who Should Attend:

Trainers, product managers, teachers, professors, instructional developers, and those who are responsible for converting instructor-led training or educational content to an online course.

Program Description:

Designing, developing, and delivering instruction for the Internet is a daunting task for today's information professionals. Only by creating a multimedia-rich environment can online content providers create training that really impacts their audiences.

This comprehensive hands-on program goes beyond the mechanics of using Web-development software and has significant value-added information that allows you to be effective with Web-based instruction. This course gives in-depth instructional design techniques to reach all learning styles. It specifically focuses on developing appropriate teaching techniques, using streaming media and other resources to design and deliver engaging content for the Internet.

Software tools like FrontPage and PowerPoint are taught along with basic HTML. You do not have to use FrontPage to create web pages if you already know how to use Dreamweaver, Netscape Composer, etc you may use those tools. We will only give instruction how to use FrontPage in this course. Participants will also learn methods to publish their Web pages. An overview and comparison of Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, WebCT and The Learning Manager are also included to help you make informed decisions about managing your Web-based program. In depth instruction in Blackboard will be used in the course for the hands on component of a Learning Management System. By the end of this training, participants will have actual learning units ready to deploy on the World Wide Web.

This course is offered in a blended format with an online office hour for discussions of important new products, software and questions/answers each week. Significant portions require independent hands-on work and application of concepts outside the "live" sessions. Participants need to have specific equipment and software to successfully complete this course.

These sessions will also be streamed so they are available for later review, also allowing participants to participate at their own convenience and timeframe.
This course satisfies the first level requirements for Certified Distance Learning Instructor Level One and can be followed by eLearning Course Builder or Teletechniques (Level 2) and Managing Distance Learning (Level 3) for a complete professional development path.
