Teletraining Systems offers
three certification programs:
- CDLI
Certified Distance Learning Instructor
- CDLA
Certified Distance Learning Administrator

Teletraining Systems offers
two U.S. Department of Labor Certification Programs. Distance education trainers can earn a certification for
Telecommunicator (Distance Education Instructor) in a video and/or web
environment.

An individual can
complete this challenging process to receive recognition as a highly
capable, well-qualified distance educator or administrator. The
designation of Certified Distance Learning Instructor or Administrator is
recognized as a sign of achievement and competence. These Certification
programs provide more than ordinary assurance of professional quality
services.
The CDL designation is
awarded to those who have passed a rigorous process that tests and
exhibits the competency of experienced professionals in the distance
learning field. Candidates for certification must attain the prescribed
instructional or administrative hours, complete the core curriculum
courses, and earn the required eligibility points.
Program Requirements
CDLI (Certified Distance Learning
Instructor) &
Department of Labor Telecommunicator
Core Curriculum
Complete one course from the following:
- The Academy
- Teletechniques I
- Teletechniques I Online
- Web Based Instruction
Also complete:
- Teletechniques II
- Teletechniques III
Experience
Complete 80 hours of actual instruction
at a distance
Professional
Development
Earn 4 points for professional
development activities. (1 pt. per activity) e.g., attendance at TeleCon,
eLearning, EdTech, Online Learning, or similar conferences. 1 pt. for each
attended; membership in a Distance Learning professional organization such
as USDLA; additional courses related to distance learning, Teletraining's
Distance Education Boot Camp
Service to
Industry
Earn 2 points for service to the
profession (e.g., Office holder in Distance Learning organization,
publication of Distance Learning article in refereed journal; presenter on
Distance Learning at a professional conference; workshop/seminar leader
for Distance Learning program to colleagues
Final
Presentation
Submit one of the following:
- A 30-minute video instructional unit
from one of your courses
- The URL address and password for your
online course
Include a document of your personal
experiences or research compiled in your area of distance education.

Core Curriculum
Complete two courses from the following:
- The Academy
- Teletechniques I
- Web Based Instruction
- Technician Training
Also complete:
- Management Solutions for Distance
Education
Experience
Serve 12 months as an active Distance
Learning administrator or coordinator performing specified duties.
Professional
Development
Earn 6 points for professional
development activities (1 pt. per activity). e.g., attendance at TeleCon,
eLearning, EdTech, Training, Online Learning or similar conference - 1 pt.
for each attended; membership in a Distance Learning professional
organization such as USDLA; additional courses related to distance
learning, Teletraining's Distance Education Boot Camp.
Service to
Industry
Earn 4 points for service to the
profession.* e.g., Office holder in a Distance Learning organization,
publication of distance learning article in refereed journal; presenter on
Distance Learning at a professional conference; workshop/seminar leader
for Distance Learning program to colleagues
*Required as one of the four is to be a
major contributor in the writing and submission of a distance education
grant proposal.
Final
Presentation
Submit for review one of the
following:
- Business plan for distance education
- Marketing plan for distance education
- Scheduling process for distance
education
- Training guide for distance education
Include a document of your personal
experiences or research compiled in your area of distance
education.
